Nigeria’s Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah  has denied involvement in the illegal transfer of $13.9 billion by MTN Nigeria to South Africa.

The Senate had recently accused MTN of the transaction and named Enelamah as facilitator of the deal. It has directed its committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions to investigate the transaction. MTN has denied the accusation.

Enelamah’s office has issued a statement that: “At no time was Dr. Enelamah in a position to transfer funds out of Nigeria on behalf of MTN Nigeria, and at no time did Dr. Enelamah transfer any funds out of Nigeria on behalf of MTN Nigeria.”

Senator Dino Melaye who made the allegation on the floor of the house had through a motion  said the deal was facilitated by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Elenemah and some Nigerian banks: Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered Bank, Citi Bank and Diamond Bank.
